Aims and Scope

TOPAI is a peer-reviewed and open access multidisciplinary journal that publishes high-quality original articles, reviews, commentaries, letters to Editor, etc. Ageing is a major risk factor for neurodegeneration, and the prevalence of ageing-related neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, etc. continues to rise with the increased ageing population. Unfortunately, there are no effective treatments available for the age-related neurodegenerative diseases. Thus, to develop successful interventions, it is important to investigate the basic mechanisms of ageing and their roles in the onset and progression of neurodegenerative diseases. Therefore, we plan to launch this new journal, which is aimed to report innovative research advances on the following topics:
1. The cellular and molecular mechanisms of ageing and the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases;
2. The associations between neurodegenerative diseases and the biological bases of ageing with a focus on: genomic instability, epigenetic alterations, telomere attrition, protein degradation system failure, mitochondrial dysfunction, cellular senescence, nutrient sensing deregulation, stem cell exhaustion, intercellular communication impairment, etc.;
3. Translational research into prevention and treatment of age-related neurodegenerative diseases;
4. Mechanistic bases for epidemiological observations in aging-related neurodegenerative diseases;
5. Psychology and Geriatric Mental Illness;
6. Neuropharmacology.
